Unfortunately, without at least some knowledge of HVAC systems, most residents of Parkland, FL, probably won’t recognize this point when it arrives. Here are a few signs that you should install a new heat pump:
Ineffective Repairs
When your heat pump malfunctions, your immediate reaction may be to schedule repairs for it. In most cases, this would be a completely sensible thing to do.

Doing so would be financially draining and how that one or more of your heat pump components have become severely degraded. If your system needs repairs too often, cut your losses and replace it.
Collapsing Efficiency
One of the principal selling points of heat pumps is that, relative to most other kinds of HVAC systems, they’re exceptionally energy efficient. If this quality begins to disappear and it drops precipitously, it means that some combination of damage and use has greatly worn down your system components.
In some cases, repairs and periodic tuneups may reverse these declines. However, as your heat pump ages, these solutions will come to seem more like Band-aids. At that stage, you’ll only be able to resolve these issues by installing a new heat pump.
Age of the Heat Pump
On average, air-source heat pumps can remain useful for about 15 years. If you choose to keep your old system after it passes that age, you’ll tempt fate. Even if your system doesn’t display any particularly crippling issues, it’s risky to hang on to it for more than 15 years.
